Changing your lower unit gear oil can be a simple job if you have the right kit, and Slippery Pete’s Lower Unit Gear Oil Pump is definitely the right one!
For starters, this kit comes with 3 different adapters:
3/8″-16 Swivel Steel Adapter8mm-1.25 Male x 3/8″-16 Female Adapter10mm-1.25 Male x 3/8″-16 Female Adapter
With these 3 adapters, this kit will fit MOST outboard lower unit drain holes. For American made outboards, you’ll probably only need to use the 3/8″ Swivel Adapter, since most American brands have a 3/8″ lower unit drain hole. This swivel steel adapter is much more convenient than the plastic ones (shown in one of the above pictures), because you do not need to turn the entire pump as you’re screwing the adapter into the drain hole. And since it is made of steel, you do not have to worry about stripping the threads (which often happens when screwing a plastic adapter into steel threads).
However, for most foreign made outboards, you’ll probably need to use one of the 2 metric adapter WITH the 3/8″ Swivel Adapter, as demonstrated in the picture above. (NONE OF THE ADAPTERS IN THIS KIT WILL FIT VOLVO PENTA)
The 8cc pump itself comes with a long and a short suction tube so that it will reach the bottom of your quart bottle (depending on the height of the quart bottle). NOTE: THE PUMP’S CAP ADAPTER WILL ONLY FIT STANDARD QUART BOTTLES WITH A 28mm (1.125″) OPENING!
